About Me

The Person

I’m a confused Singaporean striving to learn widely and apply deeply. Theory is great but skin-in-the-game is better. I stray away from viewing the world in black or white. Living in the gray sits right with me. Given the ambiguity, I value having a set of broad principles to guide my thinking.

I consider myself a generalist with the ambition to be above average in a unique mix of domains.

I’m happiest when I discover a new “theory” that reframes the world — a small step-change in how I think.

These days I graze on current affairs, general knowledge, and the occasional meme.

Timeline

2025 – Present

Further leaning into hydrogen, manufacturing and the hard hardware industries; second graduate studies in nanotechnology and materials science; trade association responsibilities, surfing and sun.

2021 – 2024

An era marked by learning to be a Chief of Staff, stepping up in military responsibility, an obsession with Napoleon's marshals, seeding interest in material science, and an intentionality of creation over consumption: this website, cooking, writing, and poetry.

2017 – 2020

Early career building. Developed a desire to framework everything — development economics, complexity science, sustainability, and geopolitics. A change in environment forced a confrontation with the self.

2012 – 2016

Student years, marked by a realization that I am not an engineer. In another life, perhaps philosophy or economics would have been my favored field. Formative intellectual years during my masters at Cambridge (an aspiring tribe of ratchet intellectuals). Cooking, travelling.
